Alcian Blue 8GX is a purple colored crystalline powder that is a cationic dye. It is Certified for use in staining in Mowry′s pH 2.5 method, in Scott′s pH 5.7 method, and in Kreyberg′s method for keratin and mucin. Its chemical formula is C56H68Cl4CuN16S4. It is also known as Alcian Blue and Ingrain Blue 1. It is moderately soluble in water and soluble in ethanol, cellosolve, ethylene glycol, practically insoluble in xylene. Alcian blue 8GX is a large conjugated dye molecule recommended for histological staining techniques. It is a dye used for staining of bacteria, histiocytes and fibroblasts in vivo.

Application :

Alcian Blue 8GX certified has been used for the staining of sulfated proteoglycans in murine MPC (mesenchymal progenitor cell) nodule.
The cationic dye is used to stain acidic polysaccharides, certain mucopolysaccharides, and acidic mucins of tissues.
It forms insoluble complexes with acidic glycosaminoglycans, thereby helping in the quantitative determination of glycosaminoglycans.
