Azure II, which is a blue-colored powdered stain, is a combination of an equal amount of Azure B and Methylene Blue. It has a molecular formula of C16H18N3S·C15H16N3S·2Cl and also known as Azur II. This dye is commonly used in hematologic staining, particularly in conjunction with Eosin Y. The purple cell nucleus stain is generated by the molecular interaction of the Azure B-DNA complex and Eosin Y, with the intensity of the stain dependent on the concentration of the Azure II, and the ratio of the blue to the eosin color.
