Gentian Violet USP, a synthetic dye derived from coal tar, is a triarylmethane dye that can be found in the form of a dark green or violet powder. When dissolved in water or alcohol, it creates a deep violet solution. Its chemical formula is C25H30N3Cl. This dye is also referred to as Crystal Violet, Basic Violet 3, Hexamethylpararosaniline chloride, and Methyl Violet 10B. It is used in laboratory setting. It is commonly utilized in a variety of fields, such as histology, microscopy, and microbiology.

TriStains provides a marketplace for histology and biological stains, which is comprehensive enough to encompass the peculiar requirements of laboratories specializing in Histology, Cytology, Microbiology, and Hematology. With a reputation for exceeding quality expectations, TriStains performance is outstanding which allows for resolution of cell and tissue components fundamental to life sciences to be clearly visualized. Each product under TriStains series is validated for accuracy, reliability and consistency. TriStains, which manufactures and markets stains and indicators in various packing, offers laboratories turn key solutions for all their staining and indicator needs, improving accuracy in every experiment.

Application :

  • Gentian Violet USP is used in certain histological techniques to stain tissue sections, highlighting cellular structures and aiding in microscopic examination.
  • It is used as a primary stain in the Gram staining technique to differentiate Gram-positive bacteria (which retain the violet color) from Gram-negative bacteria.
  • It is employed in various staining protocols to visualize and identify microorganisms.

Benefits :

  • Effective against a wide range of pathogens, including bacteria and fungi
  • Relatively inexpensive and widely available
  • Provides clear and distinct staining results

Crystal Violet is a component of Gram staining that allows one to recognize the difference between gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria with differential staining. The compound helps to assess bacterial contamination of tissue culture samples. The staining response is due to the difference in the chemical and structural composition of the cell walls in different bacteria. Crystal Violet can also be used to test the different species of archaea and the cytostatic/cytotoxic effects on tumor cell lines.
