Bromocresol purple at 0.1% concentration is a synthetic pH indicator dye belonging to the thymol blue pH indicator class. It appears as a purple powder and is soluble in water, alcohol, and other organic solvents. Chemically, it remains a member of the triphenylmethane dye family. Its chemical formula is C21H15Br2NaO5S. Bromocresol purple (BCP) at a concentration of 0.1% is a stronger solution compared to the 0.04% concentration. It undergoes a color change from yellow to purple over a pH range of 5.2 to 6.8.
