Description

Metanil Yellow CAS: 587-98-4 | MF: C18H14N3O3S•Na | MW: 375.38, Buy Histological Stains & Dyes for Histology, Cytology, Microbiology, Hematology & Biology Lab from TriStains.

Metanil Yellow is a bright yellow to orange-yellow crystalline powder that is commonly used as a dye in the laboratory. It is also referred to as 3- (4-Anilinophenylazo) benzenesulfonic acid Na and Acid Yellow 36. It is a synthetic azo dye, with the chemical formula C18H14N3O3S•Na, and it falls under the azo dye group that has the azo (-N=N-) functional group. Its chemical formula comprises aromatic benzene rings, azo bond, and sulfonate group, which, in combination with each other, are associated with its dyeing and indicator qualities. Metanil Yellow dissolves in water and alcohol but also dissolves in most organic solvents. It is a pH indicator, applied in analytical chemistry, where it changes color between red and yellow in a pH range of 1.2 to 3.2. These qualities have made it be used in staining and in analytical laboratories.

Applications

  • Metanil Yellow is applied in staining leukocyte granules in hematology and microscopic examination.
  • It is also used as a counterstain in tissue sections and PAS (Periodic Acid Schiff) and iron-hematoxylin-stained sections to enhance the contrast.

Key features

  • Bright Yellow-Orange Color: Offers great contrast on cellular and tissue structure.
  • Consistent and reliable performance: Guarantees stability of stain and colour in laboratories.
  • Versatile Laboratory Use: May be used in histology, cytology, microbiology, and pH indicator studies.
  • Cost-Effective Solution: Offers reliable outcomes at low cost in case of routine laboratory services.

Metanil yellow is an acid dye. Studies using cross-linked chitosan beads suggest that Metanil yellow has an adsorption capacity of 3.56 mmol g?1?at pH 4 and 30? C. Alternate studies indicate that photocatalytic degradation of Metanil yellow can be carried out using TiO2?as a photocatalyst under UV irradiation. In addition, ion chromatography of Metanil yellow displayed complete mineralization into CO2, N2, H2O and inorganic ions such as NH4+, NO3??and SO42-. Furthermore, Metanil yellow is useful in spectrophotometric methods to determine the presence of trace amounts of nitrates and nitrites in solution. The method utilizes the fact that potassium bromate can catalyze the discoloring of Metanil yellow which can then be analyzed by spectrophotometry.
