Nigrosin is a dark-colored powder with the molecular formula C8H19ClN2O. Also referred to as Solvent Black 5 or C.I. 50415, its chemical name is 2-amino-N,N-dipropylacetamide hydrochloride. This synthetic dye is obtained from coal tar sources, similar to the water-soluble Nigrosin W/S.
