Auramine O certified is a fine yellow crystalline powder. Its chemical formula is C17H21N3 · HCl. Auramine O is also known as Basic yellow 2, 4,4′-(Imidocarbonyl)bis(N,N-dimethylaniline) monohydrochloride and Pyocatanium aureum. It is a diarylmethane dye. It is soluble in water and ethanol. Auramine O is preferred in acid-fast staining because it has fluorescence properties, making it easier to detect under a fluorescence microscope. Application :

Auramine O has been used to study the cuticle/cutin in the epidermis of the pollen presenter in Vangueria infausta.
It is used for the staining of acid-fast organisms, coccidia.
It is also possible to make a fluorescent variant of the Schiff reagent by using Auramine O.
